To support delivering more efficient and cost-effective services the Recycle BC and SK Recycles programs will amalgamate to one legal entity, effective January 1, 2026.
A reorganization will simplify the existing organizational structure and provide immediate efficiencies and modest cost savings.
Most program partners will not notice any changes in day-to-day operations of the programs. Changes will be focused on governance and legal structure.
What’s changing?
- Governance structure (one Board of Directors)
- Legal structure (organization will operate under one federally incorporated not-for-profit entity with Recycle BC and SK Recycles as separate operating programs)
Recycle BC and SK Recycles will continue to operate as two distinct programs under their respective provincial regulations.
What’s not changing?
- Program delivery and operations
- Program Plan process and requirement
- Program reporting requirements (annual report, financial statements)
- Program brands, marketing, communications and websites
- Producer membership agreement
- Producer reporting requirements
- Producer fees and fee rates
- Service provider payments and process
- Organizational design (BC and SK team roles for shared learnings and efficiencies, including executive director and senior leadership team, as well as program-specific roles to support in-province operations)
This work supports and naturally sits alongside any potential future direction for a national merger.
