Our 2025 Annual Report

In 2025, Recycle BC collected and managed over 200,000 tonnes of residential packaging and paper, resulting in a recovery (collection/capture) rate of 78.5%. What this means: Of the supplied volumes of residential packaging and paper supplied to BC market by retailers, restaurants and businesses, in 2025 residents (from participating communities) put 78.5% of recyclables in the correct recycling bins or depots.

Of that 78.5% that had the opportunity to make its way through Recycle BC’s post-collection network, nearly 95% (over 206,756 tonnes) were managed by recycling. What this means: “Does it all get recycled?”: As long as accepted recyclables make their way into the designated curbside bins or depots, that material then has the opportunity to move through Recycle BC’s robust post-collection network and is sent to recycling end markets to maximize material recovery (in other words, those materials are neither sent to landfill nor incineration or waste-to-energy). Residents’ sorting efforts 100% matter and play a crucial part in keeping recyclables out of household garbage bins and therefore out of landfills.

In 2025, nearly 70% of materials were sent to North American recycling end markets, and 99.5% of plastics were sent to recycling end markets in British Columbia.

Over 2.3 million households – or 99.6% of BC households, from over 200 communities had access to curbside, multi-family and/or depot services in 2025.
