MMBC welcomes four new communities to its residential recycling program

Kamloops, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission will join 151 other communities in province-wide packaging and printed paper recycling collection program

Multi-Material BC (MMBC) announced that four new communities – Kamloops, Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Mission – will be joining its residential recycling program in 2017. These local governments have been on a waitlist to join the program.

“We are very pleased to welcome Kamloops, Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Mission into our program and look forward to working with these communities,” said Allen Langdon, Managing Director of MMBC. “By joining the MMBC program, these municipalities are able to reduce recycling costs by shifting that responsibility to the businesses that produce packaging and paper. They will also be part of MMBC’s province-wide efforts to encourage residents to recycle and to keep recyclable materials out of landfills.”

Chilliwack will start participation in the MMBC program on March 1, 2017. Kamloops, Abbotsford and Mission will start participation on April 3, 2017. They will receive a financial incentive to collect packaging and paper on behalf of MMBC and continue providing their own collection services to residents as part of the MMBC program. The addition of these four communities is the start of a process to add more communities to the program over the coming year.
