Hazardous Materials put Recycling Workers at Risk

As summer draws to a close, we want to remind residents that Hazardous Materials do not belong in your recycling bins.

In 2023 alone, Recycle BC had several facility fires caused by hazardous materials mixed in with your packaging and paper recycling. Do your part to protect our team — bring your single-use propane tank, electronics, batteries and other hazardous items to a designated drop-off location. Keep them out of your bin.

Most recently in the city of Vernon, Hazardous Materials placed in recycling bins caused a recycling truck fire. No injuries were reported. See the news brief from Castanet.net below:
