We want to inform Squamish residents about some important updates regarding the new depot collection site for residential packaging and paper. Unfortunately, there have been some delays in the opening dates that we previously communicated.
Due to delays with operational elements, Squamish DOX will not be able to open their new depot collection site on June 1, 2024, as originally planned. The team is diligently working to resolve these issues and is committed to starting operations at the earliest possible opportunity.
During this transitional period, the existing GFL depot on Queens Way will continue to provide service to residents until June 14, 2024. This extension ensures that residents can still recycle their residential packaging and paper without any interruptions. The GFL depot accepts glass, flexible plastics, and foam, which are not accepted curbside, and mixed containers and paper. Residents still have the option to visit London Drugs in the Garibaldi Village Shopping Centre to drop off flexible plastics and foam packaging (limit one small bag per visit).
In addition to the depot, residents can continue to use the curbside and multi-family collection programs for most residential packaging and paper products, such as newspaper, magazines, cardboard, steel and aluminum cans, rigid plastic containers, soup cartons, and paper beverage cups and lids. For more recycling info, download the Recycle BC app or visit RecycleBC.ca.
Recycle BC will continue to provide updates as they become available. Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition to the new depot collection sites and to provide the best possible service to the Squamish community.
Recycle BC thanks Squamish residents for their commitment to recycling and for their patience during this transition.
