Receiving, Sorting and Sale of Materials

After material is collected from homes, or returned to a depot, the material is brought to one of over 41 receiving facilities around BC.

In partnership with our post-collection partner, GFL Environmental, material is then transported to one of the Material Recovery Facilities. These facilities feature the latest technology in optical sorters, ballistic separators, glass cleanup systems, and cutting-edge automation.

Using this sorting technology, materials are sorted into multiple types of each material category (i.e. multiple grades of each paper, containers and plastics). Then it is baled and prepared for sale to end markets. This sorting technology helps us produce high-quality material bales so we can better market our materials and access more North American markets.
