Recycle BC asks residents to make more effort to keep plastics out of landfills

Help keep plastics out of landfills and the environment!

98% of residential plastic packaging placed in blue boxes that are taken to the depot in B.C is recycled, but some plastic never makes it into the system in the first place. Recycle BC is encouraging residents to recycle right and recycle more to keep plastics out of landfills. 

In 2024, Recycle BC directed 80% of collected materials to North American end-markets, an increase from 73% in 2023. (Recycle BC – End Markets).

When it comes to reyclcing plastics, flexible plastics such as bags, pouches, and overwrap can be taken to a depot for recycling in most communities. Rigid plstics, or  containers such as bottles, tubs, jugs, and trays can be recycled curbside or through your multi-family buildings recycling program.
