Important Recycling Changes for Maple Ridge Residents
- Curbside
I have too much recycling to fit in my existing bins.
If you have seasonal/temporary excess materials, please use personal containers such as laundry hampers, Rubbermaid bins or other open boxes as an additional receptacle to set it out. If you regularly have more materials that you can comfortably fit into your bins/bags, please contact Remple to order additional containers. For an extra blue box, please use the blue box voucher provided in the recycling guide and exchange it for a blue box at the Maple Ridge Recycling Depot (expires on June 30, 2025). It is important not to overfill your recycling containers as it helps the crews on collection days to avoid dropping materials on the ground.
I do not have all the designated box/bag types. Will items still get picked up if they are in different colour bin?
Yes, as long as the materials are sorted according to the new streams, your materials will be picked up. For example, if you have two red/pink boxes (and missing a blue bin), you can use one for flexible plastics and another one for mixed containers. Residents can also use personal containers such as laundry hampers, Rubbermaid bins or other open boxes as an additional receptacle.
Where & when do we receive the recycling containers?
All Maple Ridge curbside homes should already have four different containers: blue box, pink or red box, grey box and yellow bag. Please continue to use your existing containers until these are suitable for safely setting out the materials.
For temporary holiday overflow materials, residents are recommended to use personal containers such as laundry hampers, Rubbermaid bins or others that are compatible with the manual collection model.
If you are regularly filling more bins and need additional containers, you may request the containers from the collector, Remple Disposal at mapleridge@rempledisposal.com or 778-503-1340.
My recycling collection was missed. How do I report it and when will it be picked up?
Here are a few tips to avoid missing a pickup:
- Know your schedule! Use Recycle BC’s app and sign up for collection day reminders.
- Flexible plastics are collected biweekly. Ensure you have the correct week. Collection on the “off-week” will not be accommodated.
- Please ensure your materials are placed to the curb by 7a.m. on your designated collection day. Late setout will not be accommodated.
- Please ensure you wait until the end of the day before reporting your missed pickup. Flexible plastics are collected on a separate route and not picked up at the same time with other recycling.
- Please ensure all materials are sorted according to the instructions. If you are unsure how to recycle specific material, use the waste wizard feature of the app or review the Material List.
- Received an oops sticker? Contact the collector for further information on sorting.
Followed the steps are still think you were missed? Please report your missed collection to Remple Disposal at 778-503-1340 or mapleridge@rempledisposal.com
Why are flexible plastics collected separately now and on a bi-weekly frequency?
Due to the nature of the material, flexible plastics cannot be processed with containers at the material recovery facility. Therefore, for greater operational efficiency, Recycle BC is accepting these materials as a segregated stream. Due to the lightweight nature, if consolidated properly, flexible plastics take less space than other materials and can therefore be collected less frequently. Learn about the recycling process.
What about garbage and green waste? Are there any changes and is Recycle BC also responsible for these services? Will my collection days align?
Recycle BC is not responsible for garbage and green waste collection. There is no change to your garbage and green waste service. The service providers for garbage and green waste may or may not choose to align these services with recycling collection days.
Are there changes to my recycling collection schedule?
As of January 1, 2025, the recycling collection schedule for paper, containers and glass remained the same. Flexible plastics are collected on the same collection day as your other recycling materials but on a bi-weekly basis. Our contractor uses a separate truck for flexible plastics collection so your materials may be collected at different time of the day.
Will my recycling be picked up at the same time of day?
Recycle BC’s contractor may not be using the same routing as the previous collector so your materials may be collected at different time of the day. On your designated collection days, recycling must be set out to the curb by 7 a.m. to receive collection and left at the curb for collection until the end of the day. However, do not set recycling out earlier than 5 a.m. to avoid creating wildlife attractants.
Are flexible plastics be collected at the same time as my other recycling?
Flexible plastics are collected on the same collection day as your other recycling materials, but only every two weeks, whereas your other recycling is collected weekly. Flexible plastics are picked up by a separate truck, so they may be collected at a different time during the day. Please wait until the end of the collection day before reporting any missed pick ups.
How can I prevent my flexible plastics from “blowing away”?
To keep your flexible plastics secure, we recommend using the “bag-in-bag” method. Simply gather your clean flexible plastics inside a larger pouch, plastic bag, or overwrap before putting them in the bin. Do not buy garbage bags, liner bags or other single use products for the purpose of setting out your flexible plastics.
Recycle BC has a network of depots across BC where residents can drop off packaging and paper free of charge. Most depots accept all our materials including paper, packaging, cardboard boxes, plastic containers, metal containers, cartons and paper cups, non-deposit glass bottles and jars, foam packaging, and flexible plastics. Please see the map below for depot locations.
Flexible plastics, foam packaging (e.g. Styrofoam) and non-deposit glass (in communities without separated curbside glass collection) can only be returned to a depot for recycling.
See your Recycling Guide for information on what to bring in.

Recycling Pro-Tips
Ensure more materials are recycled and kept out of landfill
Line it up
Put your yellow bag between your boxes and not on top of them. Keep 1m (3 ft) to allow room for garbage/green bin collection trucks.
Flatten and cut
If your cardboard is too large for your yellow bag, flatten and cut it down to smaller pieces. 30 inches by 30 inches (76cm x 76cm) or smaller. Loosely stack them between your boxes and yellow bag. Remember to keep plastic wrap out of your recycling!
Keep it clean
Empty and rinse containers to prevent contamination, ensure more material is recycled, and avoid attracting wildlife when material is set out for collection.
Avoid overfilling
Avoid overfilling your recycling boxes to ensure they are not spilled during collection. If you are unable to comfortably fit your material into your boxes, contact your collection partner to order an additional box, or use a similar, open box (e.g. laundry basket, storage box) to set out correctly sorted material.
