The bright pink bag you received in the mail is more than a collection tool. It’s a reminder that Flexible Plastics belong at the depot, not your garbage can or blue box.
How It Works
- Keep your pink bag somewhere visible, like under the sink or in your mudroom.
- Collect flexible plastics around the house and store them in the bag.
- When it’s full, bring it to your nearest depot on your next visit.

Frequently Asked Questions - Quesnel
How can I get an additional/replacement pink bag?
Limited pink bag inventory is available at your local recycling depot, Quesnel Recycling Centre at 950 Carson Pit Rd, Quesnel, BC.
Please note that replacement inventory is intended to offer the opportunity for residents who missed the mailout to retrieve a bag, however, quantities are limited and will not be replenished over the duration of the pilot. The bags are intended for reuse, please follow the instructions provided in the information pamphlet.
Pink bags cannot be ordered from Emterra for home deliveries. Pink bags are not available for pickup at municipal facilities.
Are the pink bags mandatory for flexible plastics collection?
No, residents are not required to use the pink bags if they prefer an alternative method for consolidating the flexible plastics and taking these to the depot. Pink bags are offered as an optional “container” that residents can reuse during and after the pilot.
What happens to the pink bags after the pilot? What do I do with a broken pink bag?
Residents are welcome to keep using their pink bags after the pilot. Any pink bags that have reached an “end of life” state can be recycled in the flexible plastics stream at the local depot.
Do I need to consolidate the flexible plastics before putting them into the pink bag?
There is no need to consolidate the material. Simply place each piece into your pink bag and take it to the depot where you can empty the contents and take your pink bag home for reuse.
Why did Emterra not collect my pink bag (filled with flexible plastics) when I set it out at the curbside on my collection day?
Flexible plastics (either in pink bags or different containers) are not accepted for curbside collection. Please bring your flexible plastics to your local recycling depot, Quesnel Recycling Centre at 950 Carson Pit Rd, Quesnel, BC.
For information on other locations accepting flexible plastics, please visit: https://recyclebc.ca/where-can-i-recycle/find-a-depot/
Why do I have to take flexible plastics to the depot? Why are flexible plastics not accepted at the curbside in my community?
Flexible plastics needs to be collected separately from other recyclables such as paper and rigid plastic containers because they behave very differently during the recycling process. In most of the communities in BC, flexible plastics are currently accepted at depots only. In Recycle BC’s direct service areas, Recycle BC explores the opportunities of adding new materials to curbside collection on an ongoing basis, depending on collection cost and collection partners’ ability to add new material streams.
