Recycle BC is excited to welcome its first 100% electric truck into its recycling transportation fleet. This truck will give BC’s residential packaging and paper recycling a cleaner trip from recycling depots to the recycling facility. With the addition of this truck, Recycle BC is leading the way as one of the first extended producer responsibility programs to integrate an electric truck into its supply chain.
This fully electric truck drastically cuts greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to the equivalent diesel trucks in our transportation network and supports our commitment to reduce carbon emissions across our entire operation. As the first electric truck in our network, it is meant to help the rest of our network begin the transition to a decarbonized fleet through the sharing of information and data related to purchasing/leasing and operating electric vehicles. Collectors and supply chain partners are encouraged reach out to learn more about the vehicle or the process to acquire, run, and maintain it.
There are many benefits to electric vehicles beyond reducing fuel consumption. Electric motors do not have the same maintenance and service needs as a traditional engine and this series of truck also features:
- 210kWh battery pack
- 215-kilometre range
- Industry leading 3 levels of regen braking
- AC/DC charging and capability with up to 125kWh DC fast charge
- VTG (vehicle-to-grid) capability and a new full digital display
In partnership with ABD Logistics Solutions, and our post-collection partner, GFL Environmental, the new truck will be operational in February 2023, servicing depots in the Metro Vancouver area.
We continue to look for ways to minimize our environmental impact and make a positive impact on the environment and the addition of an electric vehicle is just one way we are doing that.
