Comox residents can now recycle even more paper and product packaging at their curbside, thanks to a new partnership between The Town of Comox and Recycle BC.
New material acceptable in Comox blue boxes includes empty aerosol cans, “TetraPak” boxes for soups and sauces, milk cartons, frozen dessert boxes, plastic clamshells for baked goods, plastic and paper cups, and more. Plastic bags and overwrap will no longer be accepted in curbside collection.
“Comox joins many other local governments in BC, by partnering with Recycle BC,” said Mayor Paul Ives, Town of Comox. “Earlier this year, Comox residents became able to take things like plastic bags, plastic over-wrap, and foam packaging to the Return Centre on Anderton, when the centre joined the Recycle BC network of over 200 depots. This partnership further ramps up our residents’ ability to recycle more items at the curbside.”
Recycle BC (formerly Multi-Material BC) is a not-for-profit organization that is responsible for residential packaging and paper recycling programs in many areas across BC, either directly or by working with local governments, First Nations, private companies and not-for profit organizations.
“We’re excited to welcome the Town of Comox into the Recycle BC program,” said Allen Langdon, Managing Director, Recycle BC. “With the addition of the Town of Comox, our program now provides curbside or multi-family residential packaging and paper recycling collection services in 155 BC communities for over 1.38 million households. It’s great to include Comox residents in this province-wide program to help them recycle more.”
This program applies to Town of Comox residents who receive bi-weekly blue box recycling collection on garbage pickup day, year-round. Unlimited quantities are allowed for recycling.
Residents will see information in the local newspaper and on the town’s social media pages and website. Residents will also receive a flyer in the mail with their next Comox News newsletter to keep for handy future reference.
